What is an access control system

An access control system is an electronic form of locking a door and requires an action to unlock the door this may be by a code, card or bio metric, and requires an action to exit the door, such as a request to exit button or other means.

This means it is designated  as a Scheduled System under the building code and a building consent or exemption from a building consent must be obtained from the local council jurisdiction.. The reason a Building Consent is required to ensure the design of the system allows persons to freely exit the building in the event of an emergency.
